Firelight says its live cover phase began on October 6 with integrations in Sentora's USD Protected Vault and Protected RWA Vaults. The launch moves the protocol beyond collecting staking deposits into backing defined DeFi failure events. For stakers, that also makes the possibility of claim-related losses central to the position.
The official announcement says vault operators pay fees to enable cover, with those fees supporting emissions to stakers in FXRP. Rewards compound into the staked position. Both the original contribution and compounded rewards remain exposed to slashing, including while the user is in the unstaking queue.
The announcement describes cover parameters recorded onchain and a validation process involving a security report followed by Risk Consortium review and an onchain attestation. It names technical and economic failures within scope, including smart contract exploits and oracle failures. That is defined-event cover, not a statement that every vault loss qualifies.
The Defiant's earlier reporting on the protocol distinguishes staking capital from the covered vaults and notes that Firelight's documentation does not describe the product as an insurance contract. Its September report discussed integrations as forthcoming; the October announcement now says the initial cover integrations are live.
The important distinction is between the two sides of the arrangement. A covered vault buys protection against specified events, while a staker supplies capital that can absorb validated claims. A yield-bearing staking receipt does not eliminate that loss exposure.
Before relying on a protected-vault label, users should inspect the published documentation, coverage scope and exit terms for the particular position. Today's announcement establishes the issuer's launch claim. It does not establish a track record of successful claims payments or guarantee recovery after a future exploit.
