Initia said its layer-1 network and rollups were halted at 15:41:30 UTC on October 23 after a security incident. Its official announcement said the team was investigating the scope of the impact with security teams, validators and exchanges.
Initia published the notice at 16:00:03 UTC. It said verified information would follow through official channels and cautioned against unofficial links, messages and claims circulating during the incident.
The notice names both infrastructure layers
Initia's technical documentation describes its L1 as a coordination layer built on the Cosmos SDK. It acts as a hub and router for communication and state transitions between rollups. The project's rollup documentation separately describes Layer2 networks built with its Interwoven Stack. Rollup teams can choose EVM, Move or Wasm as their virtual machine.
The framework also allows each rollup to choose its gas token and fee structure, and implement its own transaction-ordering mechanism. Documented gas-token options include INIT, stablecoins and a rollup's native token. These documented customization options help explain the distinction between individual execution networks and the coordinating L1. They do not identify the incident's technical cause.
The halt notice names both layers but provides no rollup-by-rollup status list. It does not establish the condition of every asset or balance.
The Block also reported the network halt on October 23, describing an investigation still in progress.
Reopening and impact remain separate questions
The cited official announcement gives no reopening time, completed technical diagnosis or final impact assessment. Further updates would need to distinguish resumed operations from a completed investigation.
